Masters (Sports Physiotherapy)
Darren is a highly skilled physiotherapist who graduated from the University of Limerick, Ireland. He completed a Master’s Degree in Sports Physiotherapy at Curtin University in 2016. The focus of the program is advanced assessment, diagnosis, management and rehabilitation of sporting injuries. Darren's dissertation investigated the relationship between screening and future risk of shoulder pain. The paper was published (here) and received editor's choice in the January edition of the British Journal of Sports Medicine, considered one of the top 3 sports medical journals worldwide.
Darren has been heavily involved in sports physiotherapy since moving to Perth. Darren is the senior physio for Cottesloe rugby club again in 2019 after a successful 2018 with the club. He was touring physio for the Australian Hockey Masters Men's 50's team that won Gold at the 2018 World cup in Barcelona, and will continue his role with this team in the Gold Coast in April 2019 for 3 test matches against New Zealand. Darren also worked with the Old Aquinian Reds Premier league Women's team in 2017.
Darren is a qualified and experienced Pilates instructor with which allows him to tailor progressive exercise therapy specific to people of all levels and ages. He firmly believes that the key to success is to get moving early and that improving the resilience of the body is essential to withstanding the demands required of sports and the chaos of daily life.
Darren has completed extensive training in manual therapy and dry needling. These techniques are effective in providing substantial short-term relief for patients with acute and/or severe pain. He offers expertise in prognosis, treatment options and outcome probabilities and aims to work collaboratively with the patient to help them achieve their goals.
